Plastic Waste

This month is highlighting the awareness of living Plastic Free, trying to reduce our use of plastic and to recycle as much as possible.

Read this article from ABC news titled Plastic and how it affects our oceans.

Write a short summary for each of these questions.

  1. How much plastic goes into the ocean?
  2. How long does plastic last in the ocean?
  3. What is plastic made from?
  4. Where does the plastic go?
  5. What impact does plastic have on marine animals?
  6. So what can we do about it?

For a class divide the class into 6 groups and have each group read and summarise one section to then share with students from other groups.

Writing a film review

What did you think of the film Ocean’s 8? Write a film review to let others know about the film and give your opinion.

Use these questions to help you write your review:

  1. What is the title of the film?
  2. Who are the main actors?
  3. What year was the film made?
  4. What is the plot of the film? Write a summary of the plot – but remember don’t give away the ending!
  5. Describe the main characters – what is their name? what do they look like? what do they do?
  6. Where is the film set?
  7. What is your opinion of the film?
  8. Rate the film – give it a score out of 10.

Speaking about jobs

Discuss these questions about jobs with a partner.

  1. Do you have a job now? Describe what you do.
  2. What was your first job? What did you have to do?
  3. What different types of jobs have you had? Describe them.
  4. What are some unusual jobs you know of?
  5. What job do you hope to have in the future?
  6. Describe your dream job.

Summarise what your partner has told you and tell it to another person or the whole class. Shorten what you have heard and choose only the most important information to share. Start your summary by mentioning one thing that you found the most interesting from what your partner told you, then complete your spoken summary by talking about the other points.
